IN all their glory: the regimental colours in the civic centre
A PIECE of history is back at Oldham Civic Centre following the return of the Regimental Colours of the 10th Battalion The Manchester Regiment.
The items have been returned following extensive restoration by local seamstress Sue Warburton and are now on display outside the council chamber.
They were originally presented to the Battalion in 1935 by the Duke of Gloucester in Alexandra Park and carried until 1939 when the Battalion was converted into the 41st (Oldham) Royal Tank Regiment.
Councillor Hugh McDonald, Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “The display of regimental silver and other memorabilia outside the council chamber is extremely well-set-out and something residents can be proud of.
“I would like to thank the trustees and Sue Warburton for her hard work in restoring these items which are now back in pride of place at the civic centre.”
