A TORRENTIAL downpour may have fallen on this year’s Saddleworth Show but organisers were all smiles as they handed over proceeds from the charity spectacular.
Rotary Club members gathered with leaders of two local charities to hand over cheques for £2,500 each.
Oldham Metro Rotary Club chose to support Mahdlo, the mutli-million pound youth centre due to open in early 2012 in the town centre.
Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Saddleworth opted to give its share of the cash to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Royton. Despite the dismal weather, organisers still managed to raise £17,000 from the show in June, with the remainder due to be handed out to worthwhile causes in the local area throughout the year.
Show chairman David Wright, from Oldham Metro, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Mahdlo and think it will be a really great and exciting thing for all the young people of Oldham.
“Given the weather we made a tremendous figure and it feels great to be able to make these donations.
“We’d like to thank the sponsors and all those who braved the rain for helping us.”
