Local pair on machine-gun charge

TWO Oldham men appeared in court after the discovery of two machine guns.
Officers from a police anti-gun unit recovered the weapons in the early hours of Sunday, August 7, in two vehicles. A Scorpion SAVZ61 machine gun and hollow-point ammunition were found in a Subaru Legacy on Wellington Road North, Stockport. Greater Manchester Police’s Xcalibre Organised Crime Unit stopped a white Audi on Stanmoor Drive, Cheetham Hill, with a Vigneron M2 machine gun and ammunition inside. Ajaz Nazir (32), of New Earth Street, Oldham, and Sohail Aurangzeb (27), of Wren Street, Oldham, have been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. The pair, along with Biny Amin (44), of Mitchell Street, Newton Heath and Darren Power, (32), of Firbeck Drive, Ancoats, appeared before Tameside Magistrates’ Court.
All have since been remanded until a hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court on October 26.
