Date published: 18 August 2011
A DAY of celebration is in store for Jessie Green who today is celebrating her landmark 101st birthday.
Staff and residents at the Acorn Lodge care home are organising a party for her.
Born at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester, Jessie was the eldest of six children and worked as a machinist in Cheetham Hill as a teenager.
After meeting her soulmate Harry Green the pair married when Jessie was just 18 and went on to have three children. One of the happiest times of her life was when she ran a chip shop in Wales.
The couple spent eight happy years in Gronant, Prestatyn, running the business before Harry died aged 50. She then moved back to Greater Manchester.
Now she has family spread across the world, including great-great grandchildren who live locally.
Son Alfred said: “She is a nice woman, a lovely mum and a great grandmother.”
