PROUD family: delighted Oldham Hulme Grammar student, Olivia Done, with her parents Philip and Shelley, and sister Amy
A LEVELS 2011
OUTSTANDING Oldham Hulme Grammar Schools witnessed emotional and delighted families on A-Level results day.
Parents and students waited with bated breath as the life-changing envelopes were ripped open.
One sister was already at work when she witnessed her younger sibling get her results.
Amy Done (26), a kindergarten teacher and former pupil at the school proudly watched Olivia (18) gain a A* grade, along with an A and B, to study psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Her father, Phil, from Lydgate, said: “The school has been second to none and goes the extra yard with the students.”
The results were a drop on last year’s flawless 100 per cent pass rate — but only by a squeak at still an impressive 99.7 per cent.
Dr Paul Neeson, principal, said: “Whilst maintaining our near-perfect pass rate, we almost doubled the per centage of A* grades achieved.
“A fifth of the students gained at least one A*.”
One student is following in the footsteps of Chadderton’s TV scientist Professor Brian Cox.
Shakti Kumpavat achieved a full house of grades with five A* grades, moving on to study at Cambridge.
John Figura (18), from Coppice, also received exceptional grades with three A*s and an A grade, and now goes to study law at Manchester University.
Aspiring dentist, Nicola Shenton, from Dukinfield (18) was celebrating her two A* grades and one A grade at the V Festival this weekend, before she moves on to Leeds University.
