A LEVELS 2011
THERE was a sweet pill to swallow for four girls on A-Level results day at Crompton House.
With exceptional marks, the teenagers are off to study medicine at universities up and down the country.
But one 18-year-old who gained an outstanding two A* and three A grades was unable to attend results day, as she was with millions of young Catholics in Madrid.
Elizabeth Kelly was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Pope in the Spanish capital, ahead of World Youth Day.
Mum, Finola was doubly proud... her son Andrew (16), got four grade As in his AS Levels.
She said: “They have both done amazing and I am really thrilled.
“Elizabeth is going to Cardiff University and I am so delighted she will be studying medicine, something she has always wanted to do.”
The teenager will join her good friend Emily Dickinson (18), who is also off to Cardiff and who gained three A grades and a B grade. Both Anna Newton (18), of Shaw, and Katherine Hurndall (18), of Royton will be studying medicine at Queen’s College, Oxford and Leicester respectively.
The Higher Crompton-based school has shown terrific results once again, by gaining a 98.5 per cent pass rate.
Elsie Tough, retiring head teacher, said: “I am very proud of the students.
“They worked really hard to get their grades of which over a half were A*, A or B grades.
“Nearly all of the 155 students will be going to the university of their choice. Some will be studying medicine and law, some of the hardest courses to get on to.”
The girl power continued with Charlotte Taylor (Warwick), Sophie Greenwood (Newcastle) and Fiona Bushell (Oxford’s Christchurch College) all going on to study law.
Aspiring commercial solicitor, Fiona (18) jokingly remarked: “I don’t want to go defend someone who I know is guilty, but I do like the idea of making lots of money.”
