TJ Hughes: shutters down for last time
IT was the end of an era as the shutters came down on Oldham’s TJ Hughes store yesterday for the final time.
Seventy-two staff have lost their jobs after the Spindles store, which occupied 50,000sq ft on two floors in Oldham Town Centre, was closed following the firm going into administration.
The once-thriving Liverpool-based chain had traded from 57 outlets and employed more than 4,000 staff nationwide. However, tough economic times saw the company go into administration on July 1 but its directors had pledged to save as many jobs and stores as possible.
