Boy, 15, copied rioters
A 15-YEAR-OLD boy who tried to start fires in Shaw the night after rioters ripped Manchester city centre apart could be booted out of his home.

The yob, who lives in Shaw, pleaded guilty to a charge of arson at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court.

He cannot be named for legal reasons but will be sentenced by Oldham magistrates on Friday.

Now police say are looking to evict the boy from his home and slap an ASBO on him to keep him out of Shaw.

Officers were called to Farrow Road East after a resident spotted the boy lurking around Crompton Library with a gang at 8.50pm on Wednesday, August 10.

When they arrived the gang fled but the teenager was detained close to the Aldi store.

When questioned by police, the boy admitted lighting bags of rubbish around the town and said he was doing it because “everybody else was doing it.”

When a police van arrived at the scene, the boy, who was wearing a bandanna to cover his face, allegedly discarded the lighter fluid he had been carrying.

Now First Choice Homes are deciding whether to evict him.

PC Adam Murphy said: “We know there were a group of people doing this and we want the public to shop them. We don’t want people like this in our community. Setting fire to things causes massive panic.

“It’s different seeing it on TV but when it’s on your doorstep it can be frightening.”

A First Choice Homes spokesman said: “We are cooperating with the police during their investigations.

“Once these are concluded, any further action will be in line with our policies and procedures.”
