READY for action: electric snow-plough
Winter is snow problem for firm’s invention
A GREEN solution to the area’s snow problems may have been found with the launch of an electric snow plough by a local company.
Oldham-based electric vehicle specialist ePower Trucks has launched the UK’s first all-electric snow-tackling truck.
The green truck has a plough attached to remove significant quantities of snow and also has an onboard gritter.
The ingenious eco-friendly invention may just be the solution to the chaotic wintry scenes witnessed by the region last year.
Considering that some meteorologists are predicting that this winter may be even worse than the last, the vehicle may yet become a common sight in Oldham.
Jerry Hanss, managing director of ePower Trucks, said: “Utility trucks are by nature workhorses that have to deal with extremes of terrain and environment.
“With our product, UK maintenance companies and contractors can weatherproof their operations while enjoying all the cost and carbon-saving benefits of electric vehicles.”
The road-legal weather beater proved popular on its release, with Birmingham-based building maintenance firm Drewmark Building Services Ltd purchasing the first truck.
The firm was set up in 2000 and the business now boasts a wide range of customers including international firms such as Microsoft, Coca-Cola and BAE Systems.
