Miles of interest really matters

Becca Dale’s Edinburgh Fetival blog, day three
Tuesday at the Edinburgh Festival began with an early-morning show.

We went to see one of the many children’s theatre performances, “The Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business”, it was absolutely brilliant, funny and educational!

After our morning cultural fix we began our mass marketing mission on the Royal Mile.

Armed with hundreds of flyers and buckets full of button badges, we began the arduous task of getting attention.

To many, the thought of handing out leaflets to the uninterested masses may not seem appealing. How wrong you would be. We were motivated and ready, and today we found the crowds were more receptive. In fact, they were drawn to our cries of “Free badges!” and once lured in with this enticing offer, we were able to engage, to convince them our show was a must-see.

It is gratifying to see many of our Royal Mile punters actually turn up at today’s performance. The cast pulled off a solid performance despite an incredibly rushed get-in and a cast member dosed up on Lemsip.

Poor Norah Lopez, playing Jake’s girlfriend Hannah, has come down with a terrible swollen and sore throat, but in the style of a true professional, is battling on.

Once again the audience was gripped throughout and left the venue discussing the merits of the performance and the many and varied thoughts it has provoked. Still no sign of a review.

As the sun sets on the Royal Mile and crowds of visitors make their way up the cobbled hill towards the castle, anticipating tonight’s Military Tattoo, we instead tuck into a fish supper while we contemplate what the Edinburgh Festival has in store for us tomorrow.
