POLICE have dispelled rumours circulating in Royton aboutincidents involving attempted abductions.
Officers from the Royton and Shaw neighbourhood policing team have confirmed that they are only aware of once incident, reported at 10.20pm on August 17.
A man in a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle stopped a 14-year-old girl who was walking along Shaw Road. He told her to get into the vehicle but she refused. Police were called and inquiries are being made to identify the man, described as having short grey hair and a local accent.
Insp Karen Taylor said the incident appeared to be isolated. She said: “Residents in Royton may be aware that there have been a number of incidents relating to a man indecently exposing himself in recent months this year.
“People may assume that this is the same person, but there is no evidence to suggest that the incident on Wednesday is in any way linked.”
