Women cut free from crash car
Date published: 25 August 2011
TWO elderly women had a narrow escape after they were cut free from a car which was leaking petrol following a crash yesterday.
Fire crews from Chadderton were called to Rochdale Road, Royton, outside the Marston Tavern, just after 10pm.
The women, who were travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa, were pulling out of a junction when they were in collision with a Rover MG.
Crews had to carefully cut the women free to ensure the petrol leaking from their car did not ignite.
Crews used spinal boards and neck braces to move the women, who were conscious, and they were taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital.
The male driver of the MG, who was aged in his 20s, was out of his car when fire crews arrived.
Officers spent an hour at the scene.
