BEAMING with pride, students from Failsworth School celebrated their results after a nerve-racking wait.

Elated teenagers hugged and cheered as they opened their brown envelopes to reveal that 90 per cent of students gained five GCSE A*-C grades — a school record.

Among them was Nick Rattue (16), from Hollinwood, who aims to become a doctor now he has multiple A* grades under his belt.

His reason is a personal one: “A family member suffers with depression and I have had to care for her since being young, I know the importance of compassion and that’s important in medicine. I really want to go on and hopefully help others one day.

“It took a lot of effort to open that envelope under the pressure, but I was thrilled.”

Head boy Owen Graham (16), from Failsworth, achieved a bumper collection of top grades — as well as finding time to referee football for the school, and enjoy wakeboarding, running and mountain biking.

Head teacher John Meagher said: “We will use these results as a strong foundation for further successes.”
