POLES apart: Jakub Oledzki’s grades were a great achievement
GCSE 2011
FOUR years ago, Jakub Oledzki and his family moved from Poland with only a basic grasp of the English language.
But yesterday marked an immense achievement for the 16-year-old Radclyffe pupil who bagged four A*s and four As. He achieved top grades in all of his 15.5 GCSEs, but the grade C in English showed just how far he has come.
He said: “I didn’t feel so nervous when I started, people said I picked the language up really quickly.
“I’m a real perfectionist so I’m never really satisfied but I am pleased with these results.
“It was a big challenge for me but my family have been so supportive.”
Jakub is now off to Manchester College to study on an interactive media course and dreams one day of working in America.
Meanwhile, Marcel Brown scooped 18 qualifications, including 15 A*s.
A total of 48 per cent achieved 5 A*-Cs with delighted Sophie Duncan dreaming of studying film studies and media after gaining eight A* grades.
