GCSE 2011
CROMPTON House School turned out an impressive level of high achievers, with an incredible 96.15 per cent pass rate at five A* to C, and 79.3 per cent including English and maths.
Modest James Telford notched up 7 A*s and 4 As, and put his success down to: “All going well on the day.”
The teenager admitted to feeling nervous as he picked up the envelope containing his results, and said he was pleased when he saw the contents.
He will continue his studies at the schools’ sixth form, but hasn’t yet decided which path his career will take.
Charlotte Hurndall, of Turf Lane, Royton, got 4 A*s and 7As, and said: “I didn’t expect to do so well, especially in maths.”
She will join James in the sixth form, and plans to study criminal psychology at university, despite the soaring costs of fees, which she said were “ridiculous”.
The school’s star pupil was Joshua Fallows, who earned six A*s and six As.
Celebrating a record 40 per cent of grades at A* and A, Jim Upton, senior deputy head, said “I am absolutely delighted with these results. Last year’s were high at 91.5 per cent, but these are over 4.5 per cent better. We had set what we considered to be a challenging target of 92 per cent, so this is fantastic. Our figure of 5A*-C including English and maths (79.3 per cent) is also higher than last year.
“ Pupils and staff have all worked really hard with great support from the parents. They should all feel very proud of their results.”
