With 93 per cent of pupils achieving at least two A*-C grades, Blue Coat head teacher Julie Hollis was naturally very happy with the progress the school had made.

“We are absolutely delighted with these fantastic results,” she said. “They are thoroughly deserved by an excellent year-group of hard-working, mature and really nice young people whom we are proud to know!”

“This year-group is one of the nicest groups we’ve had, they are really engaging young people,” she added.

Students couldn’t believe their eyes after receiving a bumper set of results.

The school enjoyed a brilliant set of grades with 76 per cent of students achieving at least 5 A*-Cs including English and maths.

Over 30 per cent of all the grades were at A*/A, while the school gained a personal record points score of 550, up from 508 last year.

Bethany Wignall (16) achieved 9A*s and an A. “I’m just overwhelmed, pleased and surprised,” she said.

Emma Simpson (16) was another high achiever with 8A*s and 3As. “I think it needs to sink in yet,” she said.
