THREE Oldham men have been arrested after a stash of cocaine worth more than £2 million was found in a container of vegetables flown into Manchester Airport.
The trio – aged 31, 33 and 44 – were arrested on suspicion of being knowingly concerned in the importation of a Class A drug. They have since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
A total of 65 bags of cocaine were discovered among 329 boxes of vegetables, which had been brought into the airport from the Dominican Republican.
Colin Brown, from the UK Border Agency, said: “As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert to keep drugs and other banned substances out of the UK. Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to drug smuggling should call our hotline on 0800 595000.”
