Royton & Crompton GCSE results
THE hall was bustling at Royton and Crompton School as nervous students crowded in to find out how they had done in their GCSEs, and compare notes with friends.
Alice Hebden of Staveley Close, Shaw, was one of the few pupils to gain an A* in both English language and literature.
In total she earned three A*s, four As, one B and one C grade.
Alice said her grades were better than she expected, and is now planning to study history, biology, chemistry and psychology at Oldham Sixth Form College. As for her future career, she will keep her options open.
She said she may go to university, but said it would be tough because of the hike in fees.
“It might affect my decision as to whether I will go to university or not,” she said.
Emily Brogden was the school’s ace student, raking in an impressive seven A*s and eight As.
She said: “I have worked hard and it has paid off.”
She wants to be a fashion photographer, and will continue her studies at Rochdale Sixth Form College. ,Top-performing boy was Adam Hindle, from Tudor Street, Shaw, who earned six A*s and five As.
He admitted: “I expected to do well, and I am really really happy with my results. It is just amazing getting all those A*s and As.”
Adam, who wants to be a physicist, will study chemistry, physics, biology and maths at Oldham Sixth Form College.
Head teacher Desmond Herlihy said: “We are very pleased with the performance of our pupils.
