OUR Lady’s School, Royton, will ring in the changes when it merges with St Augustine’s to become Newman RC College next month.
But it has turned out a set of pupils to be proud of in its last year as Our Lady’s, and students who picked up their exam results were proud to be associated with it.
It reported a 92 per cent success for five A*s-C, with 55.3 per cent including English and maths.
One of those success stories is Luke Graham, of Blackshaw Lane, Heyside, who said all the hard work had paid off after learning he had been awarded six A*s and three As.
“Everything the teachers have taught us has come together and I am extremely happy,” he said.
Caitlin Ellis, of Liskeard Avenue, Heyside, picked up four A*s and six As, and said: “I am really happy, I didn’t expect to do so well.
“I spent most of the summer revising and I got the grades I wanted in the subjects I wanted, so it has all been worth it.
She did well in the sciences and said: “I love science, it fascinates me, and hopefully I will go on to study it at university.”
Hazel Jones, of Wimborne Avenue, Chadderton, got six A*s and four As, to help her on her way to Oldham Sixth Form College.
She said: “I’m pleasantly surprised. I definitely did better than I thought, I was expecting a few Bs.”
Cameron Smith, of Grasmere Road, Royton, earned six A*s and four As and said although he was expecting those grades, he was relieved now the wait for the results was over.
Three A*s and seven As were waiting for Ben Cook, of Sycamore Avenue, Chadderton, which he was was “pretty much what I expected.”
He has high aspirations, and after studying politics at Oldham Sixth Form College and possibly university, said he will make a bid for Prime Minister.
He said: “Growing up in a working class family, I have a bit more idea of what it’s like than some of the people who run the country.”
Matthew Whitmore, of Stoneswood Road, Delph, got two A*s and nine As, and said he was relieved the tense wait was over.
Deputy head Maureen Conlon said: “I am very proud.”
