A REMARKABLE Oldham family that spans five generations has got together to celebrate.

With ages ranging from an octogenarian great-great grandad to the latest arrival, now six months old, the close-knit family regularly gets together.

The eldest is John Buckley (85), who is the father of Barbara Reade (63), who in turn is the mother of David Harrison (45), the father of Emma Harrison (19), who gave birth to Zain Jacob Aslam six months ago.

David was taking a family photograph when he noticed that, with the arrival of his grandson, Zain, the family now had a representative from five different generations.

“It’s a big, big achievement,” he said. “Plenty of friends lose their grandparents, and I’m just very proud because I don’t know anyone else with five generations in one family!”

Mr Buckley, from Queen’s Road, Oldham, is a retired fibre-glass worker.

His daughter, Barbara, a shop assistant, from Hathershaw, has been married to her husband, Phil, for 21 years.

David, an asbestos surveyor, is immensely proud of his daughter, Emma, and her partner, Shahid, who are parents to little Zain.

Emma, who also lives in Royton, is currently on maternity leave, but will soon be returning to work as an office administrator in Rochdale.

David said: “My mother’s side of the family is extremely large, and we usually find we meet up every couple of months for someone’s birthday or to have a barbecue.”
