Carnival’s charity bonanza

A MAGNIFICENT £32,000 is on its way to local charities following this year’s Oldham Carnival.

The impressive figure was raised during the hit festival in June. Organisers say the total is the best since the carnival was revived in 2006.

Those who benefited include the Oldham MS Society, Cancer Support, the Samantha Jones Trust, the Buckley Belles and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Event director Paul Davies said: “All the groups raising funds did well this year and they helped raise awareness of their causes and needs as well. The People’s Carnival has become a great annual fundraising event for the town.”

Plans for next year’s event are already under way, with a Picnic in the Park planned to follow the festivities.
