SCENES from a new blockbuster footballing movie are to be shot in Oldham.

And producers of the star-studded “Theatre of Dreams” are on the search for local extras to take part in the filming.

The scenes will be shot in Oldham and Manchester over the next two months.

The film will star BAFTA-nominated and Emmy award-winning Scottish actor Brian Cox, known for roles in “Braveheart”, “The Bourne Identity”, “X-Men 2” and “Troy”, as former Manchester United manager Sir Matt Busby.

Set in Manchester in the early 1980s, it tells the fictional tale of how the creator of the Busby Babes, still restless in the twilight of his life, meets working-class kid Georgie (11).

An act of petty crime by the youngster becomes a collision of fate as Sir Matt tracks him down, only to discover that far from being just another young thief, the boy is an extraordinarily gifted footballer.

Intrigued, the legendary manager decides to embark on his own method of teaching the tear-a-way a lesson.

Having lived with football all his life and survived the tragic 1958 Munich plane disaster, Sir Matt is still committed to continue his work of “training lads for life.”

Billed as a “dreamer meets a legend”, the script is described as “Billy Elliot meets Bend It Like Beckham.”
