Ahhhhh, Emma’s a winner

THE smell of success was savoury not sweet for Oldham’s Emma Slater, who slimed her way to victory in the final of a crazy charity contest.

The 25-year-old won the World Gravy Wrestling Championships, held at the Rose’n’Bowl pub in Stacksteads, Rossendale.

It’s the second time she’s won the contest — in 2009 she triumphed dressed as Father Christmas, this year her success came as Little Bo Beep.

She fought it out against grapplers dressed as chickens, giant penguins and in wacky outfits.

The eight women and 16 men who took part tried their best against the 1,000 litres of gravy, each other and the rain.

The event, organised by Andy Holt and Sara Lusty, both from the Real Black Pudding Company, and Ken Claxon and John Lowe, from the pub, raised more than £3,000 for East Lancashire Hospice.
