Angels aim to knit one, purl one, help many

OLDHAM’S homeless will be warmer this winter — thanks to a crop of knitting wonder women from Oldham.
The Knitting Angels are taking on a heavenly mission to rustle up blankets, hats, gloves and scarves to distribute to those sleeping rough and in need of a helping hand.
The idea was the brainchild of Chris Wild, who aimed to introduce knitting to a new generation as well as provide a pastime for residents in sheltered accommodation.
The Knitting Angel members, who meet at the Wallshaw Street Community Centre, Oldham, are on the road to achieving their goal with the help of a £400 grant from the First Choice Homes Respect Our Community Awards.
Chris (55) said: “This is a great opportunity to pass dying skills on to a new generation and help out those in need at the same time.
“Anyone can come along and join in and hopefully we will be able to roll the idea out across Oldham eventually.”
