HOSPICE volunteer Pat Joyce attaches a dedication ribbon to a tree
DR KERSHAW’S Hospice volunteer Pat Joyce is the latest person to add to the rainbow of ribbons adorning the hospice grounds.
The fund-raising campaign has turned the gardens of the Royton hospice into a riot of colour — as well as bringing in vital cash towards the hospice’s daily running cost of £4,670.
Since patron John Henshaw helped to launch the appeal in July, it has proved a massive success, and raised more than £2,500.
It has given hundreds of people the chance to make dedications to loved ones and friends on ribbons which are now flowing from the trees.
The campaign is due to end on Sunday, when the gardens will be thrown open for people to view the ribbons, or make a last-minute dedication.
A minimum £2 donation pays for a coloured ribbon to tie to a tree, where they will stay until late September.
The gardens will be open from 11am until 3pm, refreshments available.
Meanwhile, a family fun day and cricket tournament is hoping to raise vital funds for the hospice.
Everyone is welcome to the event at Royton Cricket Club, Bransdale Avenue, on Saturday, September 17, from 11am until late.
A six-a-side cricket tournament, with teams playing in fancy-dress costumes, has an entry fee of £30 per team.
The dress code is pink and there will be balloon racing, music, raffle, barbecue and face painting among the entertainment on offer.
The event is in memory of Jackie Procter, the late mother of Royton professional Luke, and Royton member Karen Green.

Debenhams in Oldham is hosting a “Kiss for Kershaw’s” cosmetics gala evening on Tuesday.
It runs from 5.30pm to 8pm, and involves make-up demonstrations, a charity prize draw, gifts with purchases and goody bags and refreshments.
Tickets cost £5, from the store’s beauty counters, with £4 redeemable against purchases, and £1 goes to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
