Flashing shame of 63-year-old

A FAILSWORTH father exposed himself to shocked women while his wife was at work.

Roy Tomlin admitted flashing on three Sunday mornings in July and August.

Oldham magistrates heard yesterday that Tomlin, of Sylvan Avenue, came unstuck after being seen by a pair of clubbers at around 7.15am on Sunday, August 7.

The women, heading home after a night out, saw Tomlin walk towards them with his trousers unzipped in Hollins Road.

He remained silent as the pair passed by, before they shouted that he was a pervert — prompting him to cover up. The stunned pair managed to identify the 63-year-old engineer after spotting him moments later driving a Ford Focus.

After being arrested, Tomlin argued that he had simply been urinating but admitted the offence after being shown CCTV footage.

Then he confessed to two other incidents, one in Higginshaw Lane and another in Copster Hill Road, both in July.

Tomlin, who pleaded guilty to three charges of indecent exposure, hung his head in the dock as the court heard how he had committed the crimes while his wife was at work. She attended the hearing, watching from the back of the court.

Defence solicitor Paul Bradbury said: “He is a family man, with two adult children and in full-time employment.

“He is extremely sorry for the distress he has caused to the people that saw him.”

Tomlin, who had already spent a weekend in custody after being arrested, was said to be suffering with depression and had been given medication by a doctor.

He was given unconditional bail and will next appear before magistrates for sentencing on Thursday, September 22.
