DR SALLY Bradley has been appointed medical director of Pennine Acute Trust, which runs the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Her appointment follows the retirement of former medical director Dr Ruth Jameson.

Dr Bradley has stepped up from her previous position as deputy medical director, which she has held for almost two years.

She graduated as a doctor 25 years ago from Manchester University, and has worked in various organisations and in different roles within the NHS, both in general practice and public health, including director of public health at NHS Manchester.

Looking forward to addressing challenges including being a safe hospital with low mortality, achieving Foundation Trust status and working with new partners in primary care and local authorities to design and deliver care in a tough financial climate, Dr Bradley feels that clinicians leading change is the key to success.

She said: “We have real opportunities to build on the successes we have made across our hospitals in reducing hospital mortality, improving clinical practice and patient safety and improving health care for local people, some of whom suffer from the worst health in the country.

“We know we have challenging times ahead and we need to make sure that any changes are clinically led and do not compromise patient safety.

“Our patients come first. Patient safety is and will continue to be the trust’s top priority as we improve our delivery of healthcare services across Pennine.”

Dr Bradley is the trust’s lead for health and well-being and enjoys walking, outdoor swimming and sailing.

One of her first tasks as medical director will be to speak at the trust’s annual meeting on Tuesday, September 13, at 6pm at North Manchester General Hospital’s post graduate centre, Crumpsall.

THE trust, which also runs hospitals in North Manhester, Bury and Rochdale, recently appointed Dr Tina Kenny as associate medical director to lead medical and dental education across the Pennine Acute Trust.
