Girl turns library into battle zone

THE peace and quiet of Oldham Library was shattered as a teenage girl carried out a brutal attack.

The 15-year-old stormed into the library and set upon her classmate in an after-school fight among the bookshelves.

Oldham Youth Court heard on Friday that the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, accused her 15-year-old female victim of threatening to slap her sister.

“Don’t lie,” cried the offender after her victim pleaded that she didn’t know her sister. She then grabbed her hair from behind and dragged her screaming to the floor.

Her friends could only watch as the attacker kicked the girl in the head and body at around 4.30pm on Friday, August 19. Security staff pulled the girl away and she was later arrested.

It was alleged that the girl had been drinking. She denied this in court but pleaded guilty to a charge of assault.

She was ordered to pay £50 compensation to her victim and make regular visits to an attendance centre.

In reference to a separate incident, she was told not to go near Cheapside bus station.

District Judge Jonathan Taaffe said: “You cannot go on subjecting people to this sort of behaviour.

“Ultimately someone will lose their patience with you, whatever your difficulties.

“You are treading on increasingly thin ice, but you can make something of your life.”
