Fans celebrate wonderful day for Woodhouses at Lord’s
WOODHOUSES lit up Lord’s as they clinched Persimmon Village Cup final glory against Rottingdean.
Ashley Prescott produced a famous hat-trick to help restrict the team from Brighton to 54 for eight, after team-mate Nick Doyle had smashed a superb 61 off just 31 deliveries to help the Medlock Road outfit finish on 113 for one.
Seam bowler Prescott had never managed a treble until his five minutes of genius at the home of cricket, when he took out George Ledden, Mark Grantham and Sam Shepherd.
The match started at 11am but was abandoned an hour later due to heavy rain.
Officials decided to start a new final just after 4pm, which saw the sides bat 10 overs each.
Despite losing a chunk of the day to the weather, supporters of both sides created a light-hearted atmosphere throughout and were treated to some superb cricket when the players eventually returned to the hallowed turf.
Around 600 fans watched the match, many of whom stayed behind afterwards to see Woodhouses skipper Mike Cassidy lift the cup and Doyle collect his man of the match award.
