SOFI-JO: big voice
A BRIGHT young star from Mossley is following in the footsteps of “Little Voice” Jane Horrocks and her actress grandma in a bid to become the next big thing.
Sofi-Jo Bennett will impersonate some of world’s biggest divas in the role made famous by Rawtenstall actress Horrocks — currently starring in supermarket-based comedy “Trollied” on Sky 1.
Sofi-Jo will star in Mossley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s latest production, “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice” later this month.
It’s very much a family affair: Sofi-Jo was inspired by her grandmother, Nita Bennett, a much-loved local actress and director.
If that wasn’t enough, the 19-year-old student is also off to Manchester Metropolitan University to study a three-year acting degree later this month.
She said: “Jane Horrocks was absolutely amazing — it’s been really difficult to learn about my own voice and learn the characteristics of other people’s.
“It’s been a challenge: my grandma supported me through my first shows when I was little, now she’s really proud — she’s booked for every night.”
The production will be staged at the George Lawton Hall in Mossley from September 20–24. Info: Susan Fletcher on 633 3062.
