DEDICATED: Saeed Ahmed
A DEDICATED youth worker who helps all sections of the community has been nominated for a Pride in Oldham award.
Saeed Ahmed (49) has been a senior youth worker at the Fitton Hill youth centre, in Fir Tree Avenue, for the past nine years.
The father-of-four has previously nominated other deserving people for one of the Evening Chronicle’s prestigious awards.
But the tables have turned this year after Fitton Hill resident Jane Boyle put pen to paper to explain how Mr Ahmed’s hard work made him a deserving nominee.
She said: “He does a lot for young people in Fitton Hill and everybody gets on with him, both the children and their parents.
“He goes out of his way for people and does the best he can for everyone.
“He’s a credit to the community and the estate would be in uproar if he ever left!”
Mr Ahmed, who lives in Nelson, Lancashire, is based at the Fitton Hill centre but is responsible for managing and delivering youth work in the Medlock Vale and Alexandra wards.
He said: “People have recognised the work I do so I’m pleased to have been nominated.
“My work brings children, young people and older residents in the community together to build a place where everyone feels part of community life.
“It’s also about raising the profile of Fitton Hill and Hathershaw, and it’s great that so many people are involved in what we do.
“It’s such an amazing job and no two days are the same, you are always meeting new people and helping to resolve new issues.”
