OLDHAM Council has been recognised as an industry leader in its commitment to workforce safety.
The local authority is the first in the North-West to achieve a landmark accreditation — known as OHSAS 18001 — which is a globally recognised occupational health and safety management standard.
Councillor Abdul Jabbar, cabinet member for finance and resources, said: “This is an important award because it demonstrates our clear commitment to our workforce and local communities.
“Local authorities can often be portrayed as killjoys that prevent fun public activities and events from going ahead, but this shows that Oldham Council is now an industry leader in this area.”
