A CHADDERTON man has written a book about his 13 months of hell in a Spanish jail following the death of his baby son.
Paul Henderson (formerly Lees), was held in Malaga prison accused of murdering three-month-old Sami but the case was dropped in 2005 due to lack of evidence.
The baby was found dead in his cot on April 11, 2003, by Mr Lees’s former wife Anna at their home near Malaga.
Police initially thought the baby had suffered a cot death, but suspicions were aroused when a post-mortem examination found tissues in the baby’s throat.
There was later uncertainty was to whether these were inserted by mortuary staff.
Now Paul, under the pseudonym Jamie Samuels, has written a book “Cold as Ice” — a graphic account based on his story.
He said: “I survived where most others would have caved in.
“When I finally came out of prison — without charge — I remember being on the streets of Oldham and people I didn’t even know, who had read about me in the Chronicle, were coming up to me and offering to buy me a drink.
“The book was five years in the making — writing it was therapeutic for me.
“It contains a little fiction but is primarily factual from my experiences and perspective.”
Paul, who was beaten up by other inmates while in prison, said the Spanish judicial system had stripped him of everything and had tried to deny him a right to justice.
“They are embarrassed about the way my case was handled and were desperate to cover it up.” he added.
Paul is already writing the sequel.
“Cold as Ice” is available from Amazon and WH Smith.
