A RECYCLING depot damaged by arsonists in April has been restored.
The attack caused extensive damage to the unit in Oldham Central Trading Park — the borough-wide base for the council’s and Bulky Bob’s free household waste and recycling service.
Despite experiencing major operational difficulties a full service was maintained for residents.
Councillor Jean Stretton, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “This was a wanton piece of vandalism and I hope the people who carried it out are caught and made to pay for their actions.
“But I am pleased the attack was not able to disrupt collections as this is a valuable service for residents.”
Bulky Bob’s is an award-winning business which has been collecting bulky waste from households across the borough on the council’s behalf since June, 2005, with more than 100 jobs a day.
Thousands of items of furniture picked up by Bulky Bob’s crews are made available to families on low incomes through reuse projects and roadshows. The firm also employs the long-termed unemployed to work on the contract and also provides work placement opportunities.
