OLDHAM rockers The Crabs are on the verge of hitting the big time after reaching the final stage of a European talent competition.

The band, who have been entertaining local audiences for more than two decades, will showcase their talent at IndigO2, inside London’s O2 arena, after successfully working through several regional rounds.

They won through to the final of the Surface Festival on October 1, after wowing judges at the northern regional final at Manchester Academy 3 last month.

The Crabs will battle it out against 20 other groups in an attempt to take the title and top prize, a slot at a major European festival next year.

Drummer Tom Perry said: “We have really enjoyed performing at some of Manchester’s top music venues with the added bonus of meeting and experiencing some of the UK’s best bands.

“We are now looking forward to representing the north and more importantly Oldham in the final.”

“With any competition like the Surface Festival, all any band can do is give 100 per cent and see what happens.

“We would like to thank our fans for their fantastic support during the stages, it made a big difference.”

If The Crabs win, they will perform at next year’s week-long Sziget Festival in Hungary, recently ranked as one of the top 10 festivals in Europe.
