Friends reunited

THE Terence O’Grady Social Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The Egerton Street venue, for people with learning disabilities, meets every Tuesday evening and still boasts 135 members.
Launched in 1961, its aim was to provide social and leisure activities for the over-16s, while giving carers a well-earned break.
Now in its 50th year, the club is trying to find as many former members as possible to attend a special anniversary party.
On Saturday, September 24, guests will attend the reunion at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, attended by the Mayor, Councillor Richard Knowles.
The club started out at the Laurels, Baytree Avenue, where it ran for 25 years before moving to Royton’s Greenbank School, for nine years.
In 1998 it was relocated to its current home. The group was named after the chief medical officer of health for Chadderton, who founded the club.
The facility — which won a Pride in Oldham award in 2008 — provides a range of fun things to do including live entertainment, games and computers. Members also enjoy the annual trip to Blackpool and activity weekend in Greenfield.
