Easy riders kick-on with Route 66 bid
Date published: 22 September 2011
FORGET Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles, local cyclists are being urged to join a campaign to link the borough to the National Cycle Network’s route from Oldham to Ashton.
Keen cyclists joined forces for a family fun ride along the proposed route, organised by Oldham, Saddleworth and Tameside Green parties, with support from cycling organisations Sustrans, Wheels for All and Cycle Club Oldham. It highlighted the need for a local section to be added to England’s cycling Route 66, which runs from Hull to Manchester. A section from Ashton to Park Bridge has been developed following years of lobbying by supporters. But now they want Oldham Council to formally agree to work with Sustrans to complete the route by installing signposts on the Parkbridge to Alexandra Park link.
