Baby Bobby’s a speed bump!

A mum has given birth in the front seat of her car — just yards from Royal Oldham Hospital.

Jane Talbot, of Springhead, had to deliver her third child Bobby herself as husband David was behind the wheel, frantically trying to get his wife to the maternity unit.

Bobby, who was named after his grandad Robert Cooper who died last year, turned up six days over his due date, in the front seat of the family’s Ford Focus.

Jane explained how Bobby’s fast appearance into the world almost mirrored that of her second baby.

She said: “Bonnie nearly did not make it to the maternity unit. We only just got her there with minutes to spare. My eldest son Joe was quick as well.

“It seems that when my children decide to come along, they want to make it quick!”

The mother found herself in labour at 1am last Thursday morning at home. The family jumped into the car for the seven-mile journey — and within touching distance of the hospital realised a road into the entrance of the maternity unit had been cordoned off.

Baby Bobby, who weighed in at 7lbs 2oz, wasn’t waiting and decided to make his appearance at 1.45am outside the accident and emergency department.

Jane added by saying: “His head was already showing when we got near the hospital and I knew he was not going to be long.

“Staff from the A&E all rushed outside, and they were amazing: they got us inside to make sure Bobby was OK, which thankfully he was.

“I lost my dad last year and it was nice that Bobby’s birth was in his car, as the car is sentimental to us all.”
