Indecent exposure: Roy Tomlin was sentenced to a three-year community order

A FAILSWORTH flasher has been put on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Engineer Roy Tomlin (63) of Sylvan Avenue, exposed himself to women while his wife was at work on Sunday mornings in July and August.

But he was caught out when two women heading home after a night out, called him a pervert after spotting him with his fly undone in Hollins Road at 7.15am on August 7.

They reported him to the police after spotting him moments later in a Ford Focus.

Catherine Meek, chairman of the bench at Oldham Magistrates’ Court, told Tomlin that it was her duty to “protect the public in these matters”.

She sentenced Tomlin to a three-year community order with the Northumbria sex offenders’ programme and placed him on the sex offenders’ register.

He will also be under supervision for 36 months, have to give police seven days’ notice if he wishes to go abroad and pay £85 in costs.

Ms Meek warned Tomlin that he would be back before the courts if he breached the order.

After being arrested, Tomlin argued that he had simply been urinating, but he admitted the offence after being shown CCTV footage.

Then he confessed to two other incidents in Higginshaw Lane and Copsterhill Road in July.

Tomlin, who earlier pleaded guilty to three charges of indecent exposure, hung his head in the dock as the court heard how he had committed the crimes while his wife was at work.
