WEEKS of sporting success channelling the Olympic spirit came to an end yesterday with the closing ceremony of the 26th Saddleworth Village Olympics.
And Olympic committee organisers have now been asked to use their skills to help a national sporting initiative raise much-needed funds.
Dobcross was awarded the Frank Sykes Memorial Award for fair play, and a series of trophies was handed out to winners of all the sports which ranged from athletics, to swimming and netball.
The tournament saw a major change this year, with many of the events moving from Churchill playing fields to Saddleworth School.
Dave Wilson, chairman of the Saddleworth Village Olympics organising committee, said they had been asked to organise a Sport Relief Mile in March.
He said: “We were contacted by Comic Relief to see if we would be interested in holding the event on March 25.
“It’s great that our hard work has been recognised to help in a nationwide event.”
