11 charged with child-sex crimes

AN Oldham man and 10 others from Rochdale denied child-sex charges at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday.

Kabeer Hassan (25), from Lacrosse Avenue, Werneth, is accused of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 and of rape.

He was bailed until the trial date of February 6.

Abdul Aziz (43), Abddul Rauf (42), Mohammed Sajid (34), Adil Khan (41), Abdul Qayyum (43), Mohammed Amin (44), Liaquat Shah (41), Hamid Safi (21), and a 58-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons are all accused of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16

The 58-year-old is also charged with two counts of rape, aiding and abetting a rape and an allegation of trafficking within the UK for sexual exploitation.

Qamar Shahzad (29), of Tweedale Street, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 and rape.

Aziz, of Armstrong Hurst Close, Rochdale, faces two counts of rape and one allegation of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Khan, of Oswald Street, and Rauf, of Darley Road, both Rochdale, are accused of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Sajid, of Jepheys Street, Rochdale, is charged with trafficking, two counts of rape and one allegation of sexual activity with a child.

Amin, of Falinge Road, Rochdale, is accused of sexual assault.

Shah and Safi, both of Kensington Street, Rochdale, are each charged with two counts of rape, with Safi facing a further allegation of trafficking.

Proceedings were discontinued against Mohammed Ikhlaq (41), of Cloverhall Crescent, Rochdale.

Aziz, Khan, Hamid Safi and the 58-year-old were remanded in custody by Judge Gerald Clifton.

Qayyum, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, and the other defendants were bailed.
