TV favourite Gordon Burns with the Saddleworth committee of Cancer Research UK for a fund-raising lunch
A FAMILIAR face from the small screen dropped in to Saddleworth to support a worthy cause.
Well-known BBC anchorman Gordon Burns was the guest of honour at a Lydgate lunch, staged by the Saddleworth committee of Cancer Research UK at the White Hart.
He delighted the 160-strong crowd with tales from behind the camera and how he started out as a young journalist, just a week before retiring from the BBC Look North-West show.
Organisers were stunned to learn they had raised £4,500 for Cancer Research UK for the successful afternoon.
Committee president Marjorie Stephinson said: “It was a super afternoon and we were really pleased with the total. It was a real privilege for Gordon Burns to come and everyone loved hearing his stories.”
