CHAMPION occasion: St Joseph’s School pupils will be carrying the UEFA flag for United’s game tonight.
A TRIP to Old Trafford will be just champion for a young team of Shaw footballers.
The Year 6 pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School will wave the flag for Shaw when they appear at the televised Champion’s League game between Manchester United and FC Basel tonight.
They have been chosen to perform the flag-bearing duties at the start of the crunch fixture. The children have been kitted out in new tracksuits for the occasion, which have been supplied by Nike.
Last night, the youngsters attended a practise session at the famous football stadium where they were put through their paces and shown exactly what will be expected of them before the match.
Deputy head teacher Steve Hill said: “The children — and their teacher for that matter — are so excited.
“It’s all they have been talking about recently. I’m sure they’ll be a little nervous on the night, but what an amazing experience this will be for them.
“Being involved in such a big sporting occasion and being so close to the action. I’m sure it’s something that they won’t forget in a hurry!”
