Llamas help fundraiser prepare for high-altitude mission
KATE Puc certainly has a mountain to climb. Not only has the Francis House Children’s Hospice fundraising officer been getting up close and personal with llamas on Higher Oxhey Farm, in Denshaw, she’s heading to Peru to trek 200 miles at high altitude.
But instead of the recommended three months preparation Kate has only three weeks and that includes raising all the funds and buying her equipment.
“I saw there were still places on the trip through the Manchester United Foundation and I thought, ‘I can do that!’. Now I’m panicking a bit, especially when I read about altitude sickness, but Francis House is in desperate need of funds so I’m willing to go through with it.”
Kate’s Herculean efforts will go towards the Didsbury-based hospice’s latest project, The Next Piece in the Jigsaw, to build seven more bedrooms to care for even more children and their families.
