Making tracks and singing all the way

IT was songs all the way as a unique music group turned the Orient Express into the Starlight Express.

Oldham Coliseum finance manager and keen musician and performer Peter Wakefield, from Delph, and Sing Live provided the tracks on the famous train as they joined the Northern Belle at Manchester and travelled to Muncaster Castle in the Lake District — belting out hits on the journey for passengers.

“What a thrilling day we had,” the musical director said. “We sang ‘Starlight Express’, our signature tune, on board the Orient Express — it’s not every day you get to do something as exciting as that!”

Peter is now gearing up for his next musical experience with Sing Live; he is about to train singers for a huge concert at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for the Olympic Games.

Sing LIve gives hobby choristers the chance to sing in concert halls and other places they wouldn’t normally get the chance to sing.

Peter is now looking for new singers to join rehearsals at Cheadle Hulme and Bolton. Full details from the Sing Live website at www.singliveuk.com .
