A SHORT film by Oldham College students will be screened at one of the UK’s longest-running film festivals.

“Chain of Events” has been selected by a judging panel to be shown at the Co-operative Film Festival on Thursday.

It follows success earlier this year when James Thomson won the best director title at the Clapperboard Awards for young filmmakers in the North-West and Midlands.

Chain of Events explores gang culture and discrimination and includes original music composed by the students.

It was made in collaboration with production company Baker Media who supported the students as they developed their skills.

The Co-operative Film Festival is a celebration of young people’s filmmaking and creative talents and will be held at the National Media Museum in Bradford.

During the festival the students will attend a series of film and media workshops run by experts in the industry and receive one-to-one feedback sessions.

John Eccles, production manager at Oldham College, said, “I am really proud of the students. They will enjoy watching their work on the big screen and seeing the audience’s reaction to the film.”

Creative media production student James Ryan (17) acted in the film and added: “I really enjoyed bringing the film to life; it was fascinating to see it develop from an idea to a script to a finished production.

“Going to the film festival will help me decide if I want to pursue a career in the film industry. It’s a great opportunity.”
