An Oldham Remploy worker has picked up a national award.
Neil Gorman (45), from Royton, was crowned winner in the organisation’s National Ability Awards for his sheer drive to motivate others.
Neil, who works at the Ashton Road factory, has battled with ill health and a broken arm over the past year, but he didn’t let that stop him.
Only a week after undergoing surgery he was back at work — he devised a new training programme for fellow employees until he was well enough to operate his machine.
Now four more workers are trained on the most technical job in the factory thanks to him.
Manager Majid Hussain said: “Neil has shown great passion in developing the fabrication section at the Oldham factory and he really goes the extra mile to help others.
“He has also over the last few months led the construction of a new conference facility within the factory, he used his own time to construct it, which is a real jewel in Building Products crown.
“He really has drive which rubs off on people and motivates others to reach their goals.”
Two of Neil’s colleague also reached the finals of the national awards —Brian Moss was a runner-up in the respect category, while Talit Karim was mentioned in the openness category.
Managers at the Oldham site handed out certificates to the 11 staff nominated.
