PREPARE for an arresting sight: police officers are to battle it out for singing supremacy in “Cop Idol”.
The talent contest is being staged by Oldham’s Det Sgt Vicki Kenyon as she bids to raise £2,000 towards a trip to Uganda on behalf of street children charity Retrak.
Twelve police officers and GMP staff are taking part in the TV-style singing contest tomorrow at the force’s Houghend Centre in Chorlton.
And they’ll face a tough line-up of judges including GMP Chief Constable, Peter Fahy, BBC North West Tonight weather presenter Eno Eruotor and Retrak chief executive Diarmuid O’Neill
Among those battling it out for the “Cop Idol” crown is Royton neighbourhood officer PC Claire Steward.
Also a regular on ITV’s “Cops with Cameras”, PC Steward has cruise ship singing experience and is planning to wow the judges with a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory”.
DS Kenyon says she’s already raised £1,800 through charity collections and car boot sales so she’s well on her way to her target before she flies out to Uganda in November.
“It’s going to be a good night with the emphasis on fun,” said DS Kenyon. “I think the standard will be pretty high.”
DS Kenyon’s visit to Uganda will see her helping out Retrak at one of their halfway homes which takes youngsters off the streets and helps them rebuild their lives.
