Motorists must brace themselves for more disruption in Oldham next week when resurfacing work starts on sections of one of Oldham’s busiest roads.

Work starts on the A663 Broadway which links the M60 and the A627(M) motorways on Tuesday, but the job will be done at night to minimise disruption.

This work was originally planned to start on Monday but was put back a day to avoid with Oldham Athletic’s game against MK Dons on Monday night at Boundary Park.

The £140,000 project is being carried out by the Highways Agency.

It will focus on the carriageway and link roads around Junction 21 of the M60, including Broadgate and Broadgate Roundabout, as well as the north-bound and south-bound carriageways of Broadway between Hollinwood Avenue and Moston Lane East.

Resurfacing and renewal of road markings will also take pace on a short section of the north-bound carriageway on to Chadderton roundabout and between Whitegate Avenue and Semple Way.

The work is due to be completed by November 6 and will take place from 9pm to 5am on weekdays. At weekends, it will run from 7am on Saturdays to 3pm on Sundays.

Junctions which will be closed at certain times include:

::Sorth-bound access from the A663 onto the anti-clockwise M60

::South-bound access onto the clockwise M60

::South-bound access into the Costco site

::South-bound left turn and northbound right turn into Semple Way

::South-bound access into Whitegate Avenue.

Diversions will be in place and there will be a 30mph speed limit at times when the repairs are being carried out.

Peter Gee from the Highways Agency said: “This is routine but important maintenance of this vital link road between the A627(M) and the M60 and it is needed to ensure road users in this part of Greater Manchester continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

“We have timed the work to take place when traffic numbers are at their lowest to minimise any inconvenience to road users.

"Parts of the route are in a residential area and we will also be working to limit any noise and disruption to local people.”
