Show mixes fitness and glamour
OLDHAM’S poster girl for fitness, glamour and determination is staging her very own bodybuilding show for Britain’s women.
Spurred on by her own success at fitness contests in America, Delph daredevil Sarah Donohue is staging a UK version of Miss Galaxy Universe.
Fusing GI Jane-style fitness with Miss World glamour, she has even roped in TV celebrity Jodie Marsh to be a judge for the contest, to be staged next May.
Former glamour girl Marsh recently caused a stir as she unveiled a newly beefed-up body for her latest TV challenge.
She’ll judge the contest with former Gladiator Saracen at a spa resort in Essex.
Sarah said: “Jodie is fantastic and has worked really hard, she has no preconceived ideas about the politics of bodybuilding so she’ll be a fresh pair of eyes.
“The contest is all about moving away from the archaic idea of bodybuilding and celebrating every aspect of a woman’s beauty.”
Sarah is no stranger to the limelight herself, having modelled in the past, as well as becoming a highly successful powerboater and a stunt woman.
But recently the all-action girl has been channelling her efforts into reaching her peak of physical fitness with demanding challenges.
She says she has been inundated with entries from across the country for the all-female contest, including an abundance of women from the North-West.
Contestants will be put through their paces in tough fitness tests before strutting their stuff to clinch the Miss Bikini title.
Other categories include the Newcomer and Yummy Mummy sections, intended to open up fitness competitions to every type of woman.
Sarah, who is also in the running to carry the Olympic torch, added: “Women don’t have to look absolutely fantastic.
“We want women of all types to give it a go and stand on that stage and be proud. It’ll be a massive confidence boost.”
